The Polo car from Volkswagen won’t be making a comeback in India, as confirmed by Ashish Gupta, the Brand Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India. He explained that it’s tough to justify bringing back the Polo in the current market. Right now, Volkswagen in India is focusing on other cars like the Virtus, Taigun, and Tiguan.

The Polo, which first came to India in 2010 but stopped in 2022, faced a decline in sales, selling only 11,816 units in the last financial year. The decision to discontinue Polo was also influenced by Volkswagen shifting attention to new models like Virtus and Taigun.
Ashish Gupta clarified, “Right now, we don’t have a plan to bring back the Polo. This decision is based on the market, pricing, and our business situation. We’ve decided not to go back to that type of car for now.”
He mentioned that while they understand people love the Polo, and though there are no plans now, they are open to possibilities in the future. Gupta acknowledged the changing car market but pointed out that the current conditions, including the sub-4 metre rule, make it hard to bring back the Polo.
