Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced a temporary suspension of dispatching three of its models – Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux – in India. This decision comes in light of irregularities discovered in the certification tests for the diesel powertrain of these vehicles. The irregularities were related to the smoothing of power and torque curves, but the company clarified that they did not result in any false claims regarding horsepower, torque, or other powertrain values.

The issue specifically involves Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), a Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) affiliate, finding irregularities in horsepower output certification tests on three diesel engine models used in the mentioned vehicles in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) assured that these irregularities have no impact on the emissions or safety of the affected vehicles.
Toyota is actively working with relevant authorities to re-confirm the data used for certification, and as a precautionary measure, the dispatch of affected vehicles is temporarily suspended. However, TKM will continue to accept new orders for the three models. For already dispatched but undelivered cars, the company plans to carefully explain the situation to customers before proceeding with registration and delivery for those who choose to receive their vehicles.
TKM emphasized that existing customers need not worry, as the irregularities did not result in any variations in horsepower, torque, or other powertrain-related values. The emissions and safety of their vehicles remain uncompromised. Despite this, TKM sincerely apologized for any inconvenience and concern this irregularity might cause to customers and other stakeholders.
