The car market in India is seeing some interesting changes, especially in the SUV category. People are increasingly drawn towards SUVs, and safety awareness is also on the rise among customers. Here, we look at five SUVs available in India that have achieved the highest safety ratings according to the Global NCAP.

Tata Safari:
The Tata Safari has earned a five-star safety rating in both adult occupant protection and child occupant protection categories from the Global NCAP. This flagship SUV by Tata Motors scored impressively, with 33.05 points out of 34 in adult occupant protection and 45 points out of 49 in child occupant protection. The Safari comes equipped with six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard features. Its price ranges from Rs 16.19 lakh to Rs 27.34 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Harrier:
Built on the OMEGARC architecture derived from Land Rover’s D8 platform, the Tata Harrier also secured a five-star safety rating in both adult and child occupant protection categories from the Global NCAP. It shares a similar rating and points with the Tata Safari. The Harrier is priced between Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 26.44 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Nexon:
Another SUV from Tata Motors, the Nexon, achieved a five-star safety rating in both adult and child occupant protection categories at the Global NCAP. It scored 32.22 points in adult occupant protection and 44.52 points in child occupant protection. Similar to the Safari and Harrier, the Nexon comes with six airbags and ESC as standard. Its price starts at Rs 8.15 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
Volkswagen Taigun:
The Volkswagen Taigun secured a five-star safety rating in both adult and child occupant protection categories at the Global NCAP. It scored 29.64 points in adult occupant protection and 42 points in child occupant protection. While the Safari, Harrier, and Nexon come with six airbags and ESC as standard, the Taigun has two airbags as standard with ESC. The Taigun is priced between Rs 11.70 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Skoda Kushaq:
Sharing similar ratings with the Volkswagen Taigun, the Skoda Kushaq also achieved a five-star safety rating in both adult and child occupant protection categories at the Global NCAP. Both SUVs are based on the Volkswagen Group’s India-specific MQB-AO-IN platform as part of the India 2.0 project. The Kushaq comes in the price range of Rs 11.89 lakh to Rs 20.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
