Munawar Iqbal Faruqui, born on 28 January 1992, is an Indian stand-up comedian, rapper, and singer. His life has been marked by hardships and achievements, from overcoming financial struggles to winning reality TV shows.
Early Life:
Faruqui hails from Junagadh, Gujarat, born into a Gujarati Muslim family. His family faced financial difficulties, leading him to leave school after the 5th grade. To make ends meet, he worked at a gift shop and later joined his mother and grandmother in making and selling samosas and chaklis. Tragedy struck when his mother died by suicide when he was 14, prompting him to move to Mumbai at his aunt’s suggestion. In 2020, his father passed away due to paralysis.

Career Beginnings:
In April 2020, Munawar gained initial stardom by uploading a stand-up comedy video titled “Dawood, Yamraaj & Aurat.” He released his debut song “Jawab” in collaboration with musician Spectra in August 2020. His popularity continued to rise with the release of the stand-up video “Ghost Story” on 28 February 2021.
Reality Show Success:
Munawar’s entry into the world of reality TV began with his participation in Balaji Telefilms’ show, Lock Upp, hosted by Kangana Ranaut in 2022. His strategic gameplay earned him the winner’s title on 8 May 2022. In 2023, he took on a new challenge by joining Bigg Boss 17, eventually emerging victorious on 28 January 2024, securing a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh and a brand-new Hyundai Creta.

Personal Life:
Munawar’s personal life has seen its share of ups and downs. He married Jasmine in 2017, but the marriage ended in divorce in 2022, resulting in a five-year-old son. From December 2021, he was in a relationship with social media influencer Nazila Sitaishi. However, during his stint on Bigg Boss, accusations of two-timing by his ex-partner Ayesha Khan surfaced, leading to a public breakup with Sitaishi in December 2023.
Arrest and Controversy:
Munawar faced controversy during a stand-up show in Indore on 1 January 2021, where he was accused of making malicious jokes about Hindu deities and Amit Shah, the Minister of Home Affairs of India. Arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police on 2 January, he spent 37 days in jail. His arrest drew criticism for curbing freedom of speech, and he was later granted bail by the Supreme Court of India.
