Udaan, which aired in 1989, featured Kavita not only as an actress but also as a writer and director. The show, based on her sister Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya’s life, portrayed the challenges faced by female IPS officers. Kavita broke ground in a time when there was minimal representation of such characters in the media.

Kavita’s legacy extends beyond Udaan, as she later produced shows like Your Honour and IPS Diaries. Her versatility also shone in the famous Surf ads from the 1980s and 1990s, where she portrayed Lalitaji, the intelligent housewife known for making wise choices.
