Types of West Bengal Vehicle Registration
A valid registration certificate is essential for owners to drive their vehicles on West Bengal roads. This is available from the West Bengal RTO Office. There are two types of vehicle registration:
- Temporary Registration: When a vehicle is purchased, the car dealer issues a temporary registration. This registration is a legitimate certificate that allows owners to temporarily drive their automobiles on the road. With temporary registration, one can apply to the RTO for permanent registration.
- Permanent Registration: A temporarily registered vehicle must be registered permanently, and the owner must apply for permanent registration at the RTO office to legally drive the vehicle on the road.
Vehicle Registration Process through West Bengal RTOs

- Step 3: The vehicle will be inspected at the RTO to check its condition and ensure it meets the necessary safety and emission standards.
- Step 4: Pay the prescribed registration fees, road tax, and other applicable charges at the RTO counter. The fees depend on the type and age of the vehicle.
