4th Gen Swift: New Z-series Engine Debuts in Japan
The 4th Gen Swift showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show now comes with the debut of the Z-series engine in Japan. The Japan-spec Swift is equipped with a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine (Z12E) producing 82hp at 5,700rpm and 108Nm at 4,500rpm. Paired with a CVT, Suzuki offers a mild-hybrid option, providing an additional 3.1hp and 60Nm from a DC synchronous motor. These configurations result in fuel efficiency figures of 23.4kpl for the standard and 24.5kpl for the mild-hybrid Swift, both tested on the WLTP cycle.

The India-bound Swift, scheduled for the second half of 2024, will share the Z12E engine. However, specific power outputs and fuel-efficiency figures for this model are currently undisclosed. While a mild-hybrid variant is anticipated at launch, the CVT gearbox isn’t expected to be available in India. Instead, the next-gen Swift is likely to continue with an AMT transmission, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and will be exclusively FWD.
