In the latest turn of events in the IPL 2024 season, Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant has been levied with a significant fine amounting to ₹12 lakhs for a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct during their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 3rd. This marks the second offense for Pant and his team this season, putting them in a challenging position on the IPL standings.

Slow Over-Rate Fine:
During the encounter with KKR at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, Delhi Capitals faced a heavy defeat, resulting in a fine for maintaining a slow over-rate. The penalty was not solely on Pant but extended to all members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, who were individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever was lesser.
Recurring Offenses:
This incident marks the team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct concerning minimum over-rate offenses. In total, Pant has now accrued fines amounting to ₹24 lakhs within a short span of time. The first breach occurred earlier on April 1st, where Pant was fined ₹12 lakhs for a similar offense during a match.

The match against KKR saw Delhi Capitals succumb to a staggering 106-run defeat, with KKR setting a formidable target of 272 for seven, the second-highest total in IPL history. This loss further compounded Delhi Capitals’ struggles in the IPL 2024 season, marking their third defeat in four games.

Coach’s Disappointment:
Following the disappointing performance, Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting expressed his embarrassment with the team’s display, particularly in the first half of the game. Ponting highlighted the issues faced in conceding too many runs and the persistent problem of bowling at a slow-over rate. He emphasized the need for immediate rectification of these issues to progress positively in the tournament.
