The revelation has brought to the forefront an intriguing chapter in the actor’s journey to stardom.
During a throwback from KWK Season 3, Karan Johar disclosed an interesting anecdote about his initial reservations regarding Ranveer Singh’s casting in the film. He recounted a meeting with Yash Chopra, where Aditya Chopra pointed out Ranveer among assistant directors playing table tennis. Karan’s skepticism was evident as he remarked, “I said, ‘He is in Band Baaja Baaraat?'” Anushka Sharma, Ranveer’s co-star in the movie, reacted with a playful “Ouch.
Karan further revealed his conversation with Aditya Chopra, where the director vouched for Ranveer’s acting prowess. However, Karan’s doubts persisted, asserting, “But it doesn’t matter, he looks like this.” The filmmaker even suggested changing the film’s poster, expressing skepticism about Ranveer’s potential as a leading man in Bollywood.
Despite Karan’s initial apprehensions, he attended the film’s screening with little hope. However, to his astonishment, Ranveer Singh’s performance on the big screen left him in awe. Karan admitted, “I was like, ‘Oh my god. he’s a movie star.'” This unexpected turn marked the beginning of Ranveer’s journey to becoming one of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors.
