Trailing 0-1 in the five-match series, Team India suffered two big blows on Monday as star batter KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out of the second Test against England, starting Friday in Vizag. According to a BCCI release, Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during play on Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad while Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain. With three more games to play after the game in Vizag, the players are being monitored by BCCI’s medical team.

“Mr. Ravindra Jadeja and Mr. KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second IDFC First Bank Test against England in Vizag, starting February 02, 2024. Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during play on Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad while Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring the progress of the duo,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar to India’s squad for the second Test, with India trailing 0-1 in the five-match series after suffering a 28-run defeat in the series-opener in Hyderabad on Sunday.
“The Men’s Selection Committee have added Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar to India’s squad,” the statement added.
Sarfaraz and Sundar were part of India A squad for a three-match Test series against the England Lions.

Sarfaraz smashed a brilliant 161 as India A defeated England Lions by an innings and 16 runs in the second Test in Ahmedabad. Sundar, on the other hand, picked two wickets in the match, while also scoring a half-century.
The BCCI also said that pacer Avesh Khan will continue to travel with his Ranji Trophy team ( Madhya Pradesh) and will join the Test squad if required.
